W.H.M.I.S. 2015

Target audience

This training is for all workers who are likely to be in contact with dangerous products in their workplace.

Goal

Following the training, the participant will have acquired the knowledge to be able to protect his health and safety in regards of dangerous products, as well as that of his colleagues.

Training description

During this training, participants will learn the law and regulations governing dangerous products in Canada. They will be able to recognize these products, to effectively consult a safety data sheet, to use dangerous products in an appropriate manner, according to the requirements of the Hazardous Products Act.

Training content

This audio-visual supported training will allow participants to acquire the knowledge required by the Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. We are a training organization accredited by the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail. Our training is eligible under the Act to promote workforce skills development and recognition.

Here are the topics that will be covered:

  • Act and Regulations basic requirements
  • The responsibilities of stakeholders according to the W.H.M.I.S.
  • Classification system
  • Labels
  • Material Safety Data Sheet
  • Exemptions

During the period of transition until November 30, 2018, an overview of the old Hazardous Product Act, also named W.H.M.I.S. 1988, will be added to the training. During this part of the training, the transition between the two regulations will be explained. Here are the main topics that will be addressed:

  • Overview of the W.H.M.I.S. 1988
  • The timing of the transition period
  • Classification, the pictograms, labels and the MSDS

During the training, the participants are encouraged to ask questions. During the course of the training, the participant must fill out a questionnaire to assess the knowledge acquired. It will focus among others on the classification of hazardous materials, labelling, the responsibilities of each stakeholder in regards of dangerous products as well as on information contained in a safety data sheet. This questionnaire will be returned to their employer as well as a wall certificate and wallet size certificate.
